In the Furnace of Doubts

Meditations—when you've lost your answers.

Doubts come to everyone—but you are not alone

In her new book, Catherine Doherty walks with us through some of the doubts that trouble us most in this day and age.

Doubts are part of the journey of faith. When you’re affronted by doubts, when you can’t get a handle on the answers that make you feel secure, you are walking in the company of the saints. Doubts come: Does God exist? Where is God’s mercy? You wonder about yourself, you wonder if life is even worth living. At these times, you can feel confused, like God is punishing you. Actually, at these moments, Jesus is showing great confidence in you and deep love for you! These are the moments in which Jesus calls you to join him more deeply into love—real love that knows longing and searching and commitment and sacrifice.

Nonetheless, it isn’t easy doubting. It isn’t easy being in the furnace. It’s painful. It’s scary. It’s confusing. It’s lonely. But you are not alone. Catherine Doherty knew many of the fears, doubts and anxieties of this life. God often took away her answers when she thought she had him figured out.

Catherine lived through the major cataclysms of our time—here she shares meditations written in her poustinia and in the hustle of her life dedicated to the poor. Doubts assailed her inner life at every turn. Out of these experiences over many years came this book—which she fervently hoped would offer consolation to those who have reached the furnace of doubts in their walks of faith.

Find rest and companionship in this book. Walk through these meditations and find new ways of seeing faith, hope and love. Find a new way of relating to Jesus.
